CliQ hits record JD2.43 billion in transactions in August

Amman, Sept. 14 (Petra) - The instant payment system, CliQ, recorded record highs in digital transactions in August, reaching JD2.43 billion, a 3.9 percent increase from July's JD2.34 billion, according to the Jordan Payments and Clearing Company (JoPACC) on Monday.

Transaction volume rose 3.6 percent month-over-month to 24 million transfers in August, up from 23.17 million in July and 20.96 million in June. Between January and August, CliQ processed 162.18 million transactions valued at JD16.64 billion.

The user base grew 1.7 percent in August to 2.39 million, up from 2.35 million in July. Jordanians accounted for 95.9 percent of users (2.29 million), while non-Jordanians comprised 4.1 percent (98,600). Men made up 60.5 percent of total users (1.45 million), compared to 36.6 percent for women (870,000). Adults aged 18 to 30 formed the largest demographic block at 839,000 users, showcasing youth-driven adoption of mobile payments.

Peer-to-peer fund transfers dominated usage, accounting for 79.3 percent of transaction volume (19.02 million transfers) and 71.4 percent of total value, amounting to JD1.73 billion. Merchant purchases represented 20.7 percent of volume (4.97 million transactions) and 28.6 percent of value (JD 694.7 million).
